The Beauty of a Book Collection
A book collection is more than just a collection of pages bound together; it is a reflection of one's journey through knowledge, imagination, and history. Each book carries with it a unique story, both in its content and its presence on the shelf. For a true bibliophile, every book serves as a milestone - a moment in time that marks curiosity, discovery, and growth. Sadly, many children in the UK do not have this privilege; thousands of them grow up in homes with very few books of their own, sometimes none at all as they don't own books.
This is what the Children's Book Project is aiming to rectify. They collect books from families that have grown out of theirs, remove any that are tatty and then organise them by age and stage prior to gifting to children with very few books of their own via partnerships with over 350 schools and community groups that have registered local families' requests for children’s books.
This week at the lycée, a collective book drive for the Children's Book Project was put in place under the initiative of a student of the British Section, who enrolled many of his friends from both streams to manage the book run with him. Over three days, through their hard work and the incredible generosity of the LFCG families, they have collected an astonishing 550 books!
The students wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the parents, who donated books, with some of them even bringing the books to school as bags were too heavy, as well as to the management of the Lycée for authorising the book run, and finally to the staff at the main entrance, in the Communication department and to the security personnel, who have been amazing in supporting them.
Finally, the Children's Book Project is sending its deepest gratitude to the LFCG Community.
