Dear parents, dear voters,
Following the webinar organised by the Lycée to introduce you to the various bodies in which you are represented and how to elect your representatives, we would like to provide you with a summary and some useful additional information.
WHO CAN VOTE?
Parents/legal guardians of one or more children enrolled at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle.
A. If you have one or more children enrolled in secondary school:
- You have one vote per parent/legal guardian (regardless of the number of children enrolled), with a maximum of two votes per family, to vote in the Lycée council (Conseil d’Etablissement) elections.
B. If you have one or more children enrolled in primary school, you vote once for the Lycée council (Conseil d’Etablissment) and once for the school council (Conseil d’Ecole):
- You have one vote per parent/legal guardian (regardless of the number of children enrolled in primary school), with a maximum of two votes per family, to vote in the school council elections.
- You have one vote per parent/legal guardian (regardless of the number of children enrolled in primary school), with a maximum of two votes per family, to vote in the Lycée council elections.
C. If you have one or more children enrolled in primary school and one or more children enrolled in secondary school, you vote once for the Lycée council (Conseil d’Etablissment) and once for the school council (Conseil d’Ecole):
- You have one vote per parent/legal guardian (regardless of the number of children enrolled in primary school), with a maximum of two votes per family, to vote in the school council elections.
- You have one vote per parent/legal guardian (regardless of the number of children enrolled in the school), with a maximum of two votes per family, to vote in the Lycée council elections.
WHAT ARE YOU VOTING FOR?
You are voting for parent representatives on the following bodies:
- The Lycée council is the main body for primary and secondary schools; it is joint and has seven seats for parents.
• Its responsibilities: strategic direction, projects, internal regulations, school timetables and calendars, staff accommodation, structural changes.
- The school council, chaired by the school principals, has a number of seats based on the number of classes in the school (max. 15): in schools with fewer than 15 classes: the same number of parent representatives as there are classes (it is not mandatory for each class to be represented). In schools with more than 15 classes: 15 parent representatives, including at least one per level of education.
• Its responsibilities: deals with the running of the school, hygiene, projects, sustainable development (PACE).
WHO TO VOTE FOR?
- Lycée council: lists that may or may not come from a parents' association, must include at least two parents, and parents from primary and secondary schools.
- School council: lists that may or may not come from a parents' association, must include at least two parents from primary schools.
- Lists may include up to twice the number of seats to be filled (14 for 7 seats, 30 for 15 seats).
- The order of candidates on the list determines the allocation of seats.
- As in previous years, the APL will present lists of candidates for the Lycée Council and the four School Councils.
WHEN TO VOTE?
- Electronic voting will be open from 13 to 15 October 2025.
- Voting instructions and online procedures will be sent by the Lycée by email on 6 October 2025.
Results and allocation of specific seats:
- Results will be published on the afternoon of 15 October 2025.
- Representatives are elected by proportional representation using the largest remainder method.
Parents elected to the Lycée Council (full and alternate members) will elect or appoint members from among themselves to almost all of the committees:
- The secondary school council prepares secondary school issues to be submitted to the school board; 4 seats for parents.
- The disciplinary council includes 3 parent seats for middle school and 2 for high school; it rules on serious sanctions.
- The CESCE (health, education, environment) includes 4 parent seats; the health and safety committee (CHS) includes 2 parent seats.
- The middle school and high school councils (CVC & CVL) include 3 seats for parents in each body.
Bodies without parent representation:
- Teachers' and cycle councils are internal, reserved for teachers.
- The teaching council, made up of subject coordinators, prepares teaching projects.
Specific responsibilities of secondary school class councils:
- Class councils always include parent representatives, appointed according to the results of elections.
- If a representative cannot be appointed in a class, a parent from another class may volunteer.
